Setting
a spiritual goal - what a noble concept. What a lofty idea. And yet
very esoteric. You can't touch it, see it, or hear it. Yet many people
sense they can "feel it". How do we go about setting spiritual
goals? Do you even believe that we have a spiritual dimension to our
existence? This web site is not dedicated to convincing you that you
do. (that is for another day....I believe that YOU MOST DEFINITELY
HAVE A SPIRITUAL DIMENSION).
So for the purposes
of this web site we have to assume that your spiritual side of your
life requires goals. That is, you need to improve your spiritual life
somehow. An improved spiritual life will make you a better person,
it will balance out your whole Success Matrix. Developing spiritual
goals will help you through the tough times. It will give you hope.
Remember the success we are after is complete, not in just one area.
How do you set goals for
spirituality? How do you set goals for hope? Why
even talk about hope? Well, the answer is like most things in life
is easy, but VERY hard to accomplish.
No, hope is different. Hope gives
us a vision for the future. Hope is a positive looking word. It has
such a nice, soft cuddly sound to it. Yet it is so hard to attain. I
guess the best approach to hope, as it relates to setting your
goals, would be increasing your faith. Faith in something greater
then yourself. I believe strongly in faith. I believe that faith and
hope go hand in hand. If you have hope for the future, you have
everything. You are unstoppable. If you are unstoppable, then you
can achieve anything.
My whole mission is based on my
faith. By helping YOU reach your goals, I will will reach mine. I
believe that the service of others is the greatest expression of
hope and faith that there is. My faith teaches me that by giving my
talents to help others succeed, my success is inevitable. My
success is predicated on my ability to give who I am to others. My
mentor in this philosophy is Mother Theresa. Pure. Simple. Faith.
Like me, you have unique gifts and talents.
Find out what they are. Make that one of your goals. Discover your
talents, and then give it away. Give it to others. Use your talent
to help others succeed. It will be the easiest and most joyous thing
you've done. Give your natural talent to help others. I believe these gifts and talents are God-given. You were born
with them. They are the ones that you are supposed to focus on and
then pass
on to others. Since they are God-given they will also be the ones
that will come the easiest and bring you the most joy and
satisfaction. Your goals should focus on discovering these talents,
these God given gifts. Find your gift, and you will find peace and
contentment in all that you do.
The examples below are a simplified
version of what ONE major goal may look like. The toughest part for
any goal setting is to break it down into daily tasks (Step 5). The
tasks in this example are actually something you could do in the
first day or week of reaching your goal. It was done this way on
purpose so as to give you a starting point. Remember, Goal setting is
a DAILY TASK. Get into the habit of reviewing your goals on a daily
basis.
