Financial
When people think of goals and success, they
usually think of financial goals. This is on most of the minds of
people we talk to.
You can not have confidence and a strong self image
if you do not have your finances in order. Finances are a starting
point for feeling good about yourself. Finances are the matrix where
we focus in on the THINGS of our lives, the homes, cars,
trips…anything that requires money. When setting goals, this is the
area you would include all the possessions you want to own in
your life.
This by far is where the big dreams come into play.
Where you think of your future as being stress less because you own
everything free and clear and the burden of having to pay those
nasty monthly bills are gone forever. These are goals like owning a
beachfront home in the Turks and Cacaos. Or buying that May Bach you
always see Donald Trump driving. But be warned, we are not talking
about going into debt just so you can reach this goal and say that
you’ve achieved one of your dreams. No…. we are talking about steps,
and the six steps to success are exactly that. They are not the six
leaps to success or the six jumps to success. They are
steps. And steps are meant to be taken one at a time. The phrase
“one day at a time” taken from the 12 step program is very
applicable here. Meaningful success, one that affects your self
esteem, must be taken in steps. And it will be up to you to
determine the path you chose to success. What we are endorsing here
is success that comes on a daily basis. Your self image will
increase everyday by achieving small, meaningful goals.
The list below is a brief example
of how to set one financial goal. Yours will be different. There is
a strong connection between the people that you list (3)and your
daily tasks (5). For many the VERY FIRST step is to actually DO
something about your goal and visit one of the people you listed.
Get feedback from them on how you can achieve your goal. You will be
pleasantly surprised at the help you will receive if you just ask.
The people you enlist to help you will also guide you in your daily
tasks of things to accomplish. By just meeting with them your sense
of success will be strengthened. Do it. Do something, anything that
will move you forward in this goal. It will do wonders for your
feeling of self worth. After all how hard is it to pick up the phone
and call a bank to discuss home ownership. They would love to talk
to you and help you achieve this goal.
The examples below
are a simplified version of what ONE major goal may look like. The
toughest part for any goal setting is to break it down into daily
tasks (Step 5). The tasks in this example are actually something you
could do in the first day or week of reaching your goal. It was done
this way on purpose so as to give you a starting point. Remember
Goal setting is a DAILY TASK. Get into the habit of reviewing your
goals on a daily basis.
